What top attraction in Illawarra is luring families from Sydney, Canberra and far flung NSW?

Families from Sydney, Canberra and NSW are coming in droves to the Illawarra. Our reputation is growing beyond just the South Coast holiday destination as more and more parents are getting wind of quite how awesome our attractions are...

In fact, it is one unique and very special Illawarra venue that attracted more 100,000 families and children to it just last year. Early Start Discovery Space is just such an asset to our region and something for us locals to just revel in...

It’s Australia’s only dedicated ‘children’s museum’, and the first-of-its-kind in the world based on a university campus, The Early Start Discovery Space is operated and supported by the University of Wollongong.

So how have they got it just so right? How have Early Start Discovery Space created the reputation that brings far flung NSW families to our beautiful Illawarra region specifically to come to this venue?

Play is as natural to a child as smiling, crawling or reaching out to a loved one for a hug…it is also recognised as a powerful developmental force that encourages exploration, risk taking, the development of social networks and engagement with learning. Early Start Discovery Space have used their powerful research and partners insights to create a series of experiences that capture and delight every child, regardless of personality.

What is it that the parents love about this too? Us parents understand that their child’s earliest years shape later development and learning, but we are often unsure about what specifically we should be doing to promote healthy emotional, social and intellectual development in our kids. As a destination dedicated to playful learning, Discovery Space is fun and truly meaningful learning experience for your child.

To celebrate Discovery Space's 2nd Birthday (they've moved into toddlerhood!) you are invited to join in a week of musical fun as they celebrate their 2nd birthday. Filled with musical games, workshops, activities & lots more! Saturday 20 May – Friday 26 May, 9am – 4pm (closed Monday).

It’s the Discovery Space’s way of say thank you to local families like you who have supported them.

Our week long celebrations are filled with exciting experiences, musical games, workshops, special guests, activities, giveaways & lots more. Making Merry Music Show: A show designed for our visitors to be able to play with noise to explore how sound is created and how it moves. Music with Mark: Join Mark from the Wollongong Conservatorium of Music as he explores instruments made from recyclable materials. Mark will have visitors exploring different sounds from dropping pipes, hitting bottles and banging on pots and pans. Little Ngargens Dance Troupe: Dance performance by local Aboriginal group featuring students from various High Schools from the Illawarra.

SEE THE FULL EVENT PROGRAM! Activities are FREE (once in the Space) and no bookings are required. General entry tickets for non-members can be purchased at the special rate of $10 per person. For only $2 members can purchase a small take-home musical instrument, the cost is $4 for non-members. Please note places for specific activities will be limited to a first come first served basis. Come and let your child play, learn laugh and love it all!

The Discovery Space is the ultimate learning-through-play environment: a place for imagination, interaction and transformation that ignites a love of learning to last a lifetime. We are so lucky to have this all on our doorstep... Like and share to show your appreciation! With our thanks to The Discovery Space for working in partnership with Parents Guide and sponsoring this article :)
