My seven year old is desperate to ditch his booster seat... I too, was under the misconception that children upwards of seven are OK to come out of a booster seat. But the research says that is NOT the case...
Parents, let's stand firm together in the face of these 'ditch the booster seat' requests and get your child to embrace resilience to peer pressure they may face from older friends who don't use a booster seat (for example, encourage your child that what they think and believe is the most important thing, not what their their friends do or say!)
As ever, our kids safety and good health is paramount and Kidsafe's (The Child Accident Prevention Foundation of Australia) National Guidelines for the Safe Restraint of Children Travelling in Motor Vehicles, states:
Children should continue to use a booster seat as long as possible, until they can fit properly into an adult seat belt. A good adult seat belt fit is generally not achieved before children are approximately 145-150cm tall, or 11-12 years of age.
My seven year old is one the tallest in his class and he is only 130cm's... He will be in his booster seat for years to come!
