Wollongong Botanic Garden is a wonderful place to visit with its many garden collections to explore, picnic spaces to enjoy, an All Abilities Playground, a duck feeding area plus a range of family and child-focused activities including school holiday programs, garden workshops, theatrical tours and outdoor cinema.
Our city’s Botanic Garden allows you to escape the everyday with its excellent network of paths to explore and hidden treasures to discover. In addition to the many garden collection themes that display plants from around the world they have an All Abilities Playground that includes swings, a sand pit, slippery dip, climbing net, viewing platform and a maze suitable for children aged 2 to 12 years, picnic spaces, BBQs, as well as a duck pond with a feeding area which is popular pastime for families. Coffee and a range of delicious snacks can be purchased from the Lett's Do Coffee mobile coffee van between 9.30am and 12.30pm everyday near our main entrance.
The Garden has an exciting array of activities and experiences on offer for visitors of all ages throughout the year. Some of the regular activities include guided tours, bird-spotting walks, garden workshops, historically-themed theatrical walks, school excursions, holiday activities, nocturnal walks and as well as the popular Sunset Cinema program every summer. Check out our event calendar for a list of upcoming activities.
This summer the Garden will be introducing a new free toddler program called Budding Bookworms. Every Friday from 10am they will be planting the seeds of imagination and creativity with magical stories, engaging sing-alongs and rhymes, wiggly dances and crafts. Our storyteller will meet the budding bookworms and their carers on the lawn south of the playground. Any changes to location or cancellations will be published on the Garden’ Facebook page. Bookings not required. During spring, a similar program titled Garden Storytime will run at the Garden on Fridays at 10am near the playground.
Visit Wollongong Botanic Garden’s website for more information about the Garden and activities on offer, including our monthly native plant sales (third Friday of each month except December). Event updates are posted regularly on their Facebook page so we encourage you to follow them too.
Birthday Parties: Looking for a kid’s birthday party with a difference? The Garden offers Ranger Birthday Parties for children aged 5 to 12 years.
Our Ranger hosts lead a two-hour party package filled with heaps of engaging (and educational) outdoor. Children will be actively engaged in a scavenger hunt, sample bush tucker and play traditional party games with a bit of twist. And don’t worry about the possibility of rain; we have lots of indoor activities on standby so the party can proceed rain, hail or shine!
Ranger Parties can be held on Saturday and Sundays in between 11am and 1pm, or 2pm and 4pm.
Parents have exclusive access to the Garden’s Towri Centre which has a fully equipped kitchen to allow you prepare party food. Visit our website for more information.
